An extensive background in metal and wood work combined with an irrepressible urge to create art has allowed this BC artist to create a portfolio ranging from beautiful and functional wood coffee tables and kitchen art to dramatic stainless steel sculpture and garden art.
"Choose only one master - Nature." RembrandtCreative, stunning, functional, spectacular, wonderful and original!
It's not hard to describe the innovative wood & metal art of
Campbell River Sculptor Gary Irwin.
Gary creates stainless steel sculpture and furniture components and "marries" them to once in a lifetime finds of rare woods from the interior rainforests of Vancouver Island and the beaches of the vast coastlines of the great Pacific Northwest. Some of these strange and beautiful woods can be upwards of a thousand years old.
What does a label matter if something adds beauty to your life? Current natural wood furniture pieces in Gary's portfolio include a dramatic round glass-top coffee table. The glass top rests on sculpted stainless steel "kelp" twining upwards from a unique piece of spruce. A sculptured otter sits just under the glass gazing longingly at the salmon below. As you stare in at this aquatic scene a starfish becomes apparent along with stainless barnacles attached to the wood. The head of an eel peers out from his hiding place.
Presently Gary's other stainless steel sculptures are found on the rare wood tables he has created exhibiting a medley of sea creatures including sea otter, star fish, oyster, octopus, barnacles, scallops, salmon, kelp and Great Blue Heron.

Of course each piece of Gary's art is truly an original and cannot be duplicated but if something strikes your fancy please contact Gary, he will be pleased to make suggestions. Based on your vision he can create a stainless steel art sculpture and combine it with one of the unique pieces of unusual wood he has in stock. The result will be both original and spectacular!
In addition to dramatic fine art sculpture Gary also creates metal wall art, stainless steel kitchen art and playful garden art out of his signature stainless steel, driftwood and natural wood.
A stately oval glass top entrance table also has an aquatic theme. The glass top of the table rests on the entwined, sculptured "kelp" (one of Gary's trademarks). When you look through the glass, as though you were staring through the ocean's surface, bookend burls of a rare red cedar root, stare up at you.
A sculptured great blue heron is perched on the tall twisting root gazing at an octopus that has climbed out of the sea at low tide onto the base of yellow cedar. Look closely and you'll spot an oyster. Twisted kelp and scallop shells create the footing to support this table. This is a stellar example of Pacific Northwest art and design using wood and natural elements.
