A tree stands on the rugged coast of the pacific northwest. A wind storm causes the tree to surrender to the beach below. The top of the tree buries itself deep into the black sand that it had looked down on for so many years. A beachcomber spots the tree, cuts off what he can salvage, and leaves the rest. The sea wastes no time on claiming the tree, the marine life moves in, and the Great Blue Heron, who had once used the tree to nest in, now uses it as the perfect perch in which to fish.
